The currency of Belize is the Belizean Dollar, with one Dollar equalling 100 cents. Notes come in denominations of BZ$100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of BZ$1, as well as 50, 25, 10, 5, and 1. The Belizean Dollar is tied to the US Dollar, with $1 equalling BZ$2.
Money can be exchanged at many banks, hotels and travel agencies. Traveller's cheques are accepted, but conversion charges will often apply. US Dollars are accepted as currency by many businesses.
ATMs are available, though they do not always accept international cards. Major international credit and debit cards are accepted, however it should be checked beforehand if an establishment does actually take them.

The import and export of domestic currency is limited to BZ$100. The import of foreign currency is unlimited, as long as it is declared on arrival, and export is limited to the amount declared on entering the country.
Business
General banking hours in most areas are from 0800 to 1300, Mondays to Thursdays, and from 0800 to 1630 on Fridays. Shopping hours are generally from 0800 to 1200, from 1300 to 1630 and then from 1900 to 2100 Mondays to Saturdays.
A handshake is a customary greeting in Belize, and laid back nature of the country is reflected in business proceedings.
Service charges are added to bills in the more upmarket hotels and restaurants, but tips for taxi drivers, bell boys and the like are usually at a discretionary amount.
